Additional site (or addon domain)

Updated on 3 November 2026

What is an additional site or addon domain? An addon domain (also called an additional site) is a website added to an active web hosting account that already has a main domain name. Every addon domain is managed with the same administration panel (cPanel) and shares the same resource limits (disk space, bandwidth, e-mail addresses, FTP accounts, databases, etc.) as your main account. The addon domain has its own domain name (example: www.newdomain.com), so for your visitors it is an entirely independent website. In reality, the addon domain's files live in the directory of your choice in the main site's account (example: public_html/newdomain/). What are the advantages of an addon domain? * You have an independent website (example: www.newdomain.com) at a reduced rate of $30/year (plus taxes) per addon domain. * You can manage all your websites from the same management panel (cPanel). * For your visitors, the addon domain appears as an entirely independent website. * Each addon domain can use its own FTP account, to limit access to the main account's files. * Each addon domain can use its own e-mail addresses. What are the drawbacks of an addon domain? * Access to the management panel (cPanel) of the addon domain and of the main site is shared, so those with access to the addon domain's cPanel can change the files and settings of the main domain. We therefore do not advise giving this access to other individuals. * An additional site cannot have its own SSL security certificate, and is therefore not advised for e-commerce sites. * Since resources are shared, very high resource use on one of the addon domains could affect all the domains on the same account. If security and flexibility matter for your new website, we recommend ordering a separate web hosting account instead. How do I order an addon domain? Before ordering an addon domain, you must already have: 1. Ordered a PRO hosting plan for your main site 2. Registered with us (or with another domain registrar) the domain name that will be used as the addon domain. Then you can order your addon domain: 1. Sign in to the Client Area > My Products/Services 2. Click View Details for the account in question. 3. In the Available Extras menu, choose the Additional Site option. 4. Complete the order and the payment for this option. 5. You will receive a confirmation that it has been added to your account within 48 hours at most. You can then add the addon domain through your cPanel, under Domains > Addon Domains. Do not hesitate to contact us for any further information on this subject.
