Publishing your site by FTP
Updated on 3 November 2026
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) connections let you transfer files between your computer and the web server. To connect by FTP, you need an FTP program (we recommend the free program FileZilla). Once your FTP program is started, enter the following connection details: * Address/Host/Server: ftp.mydomain.com (replace mydomain.com with your domain name) * User: your username (given in your account opening e-mail) * Password: your password (given in your account opening e-mail) * Port: 21 (the default port in every program) Once connected, put all the files you want to be reachable on your website in the "public_html" directory. The page index.html (in the public_html directory) is loaded as soon as someone reaches your site, so you must replace/modify the file index.html with your own content. We recommend consulting the documentation that comes with your FTP client in case of problems (with FileZilla, you can find this documentation by clicking Help > Help topics).
