MySQL databases

Updated on 3 November 2026

Every hosting account gives you access to one or more MySQL databases. You can create these databases in your cPanel and manage them with the phpMyAdmin graphical administration interface. Creating a database: 1. Sign in to your cPanel. 2. Under "Site management tools", click "MySQL Databases". 3. In the "MySQL database" field, enter the name of your database and click "Create MySQL database". The full name of the database will be: [main username]_[database name]. For example, if the username you use to sign in to your cPanel is mtremblay and the name you chose for your database is projet01, the name of your new database will be: mtremblay_projet01. 4. After confirmation, click "Back" and create a user for this database in the "MySQL Users" section of the page. You will need to enter a username and a secure password. Click the "Create MySQL user" button once this information is entered. The full username you have just created will be: [main username]_[database username]. For example, if the username you use to sign in to your cPanel is mtremblay and the username you chose for your database is also mtremblay, the username of your new database will be: mtremblay_mtremblay. 5. After confirmation, click "Back" and go to the section of the page titled "Grant a MySQL user rights on a MySQL database". Choose the user you have just created in the "Username" drop-down menu and the database in the "MySQL database" drop-down menu. Tick the "ALL" box in the "Privileges" section (this box should be ticked by default), and click "Grant rights".
