What conditions must I meet to transfer my domain name to you?

Updated on 3 November 2026

Before transferring the registration and management of a domain name to us, you must:

* Be the owner of this domain name, or have the owner's authorisation to carry out the transfer.
* Have registered the domain name in question with another registrar at least 60 days before the date of the new transfer request.
* Have access to the administrative e-mail address registered for this domain. You can see which e-mail address was registered for your domain by running a "whois" search on the domain (the e-mail in question is shown under "Admin-Mailbox"). If this e-mail address is not yours, please contact your current domain provider to change it. If you use a WHOIS privacy service, you will need to turn off every privacy option before placing your transfer request.
* Make sure your domain name is not locked by your current registrar. You can check whether your domain is locked by running a "whois" search on the domain. If there is a lock, the following line will probably be shown: "Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK" (other possible variants are: clientUpdateProhibited, clientTransferProhibited and clientDeleteProhibited). If your domain is locked, you will have to contact your current registrar so that it unlocks your domain name. We cannot transfer a domain name as long as it is not unlocked. Most registrars in fact offer a web interface that lets you change your domain's lock status yourself.
* For transfers of .COM/NET/ORG/INFO/BIZ domains, you must obtain a special transfer authorisation code from your current registrar, called the EPP code (or AUTH CODE, or simply authorisation code). Please ask your domain registrar to send you this code, and copy it carefully into the field provided for it on the order form. .CA domains do not need an EPP transfer code.
