How do I create a database?

Updated on 3 November 2026

Every hosting account gives you access to one or more MySQL databases.

You can create these databases in your cPanel and manage them with the phpMyAdmin graphical administration interface. Creating a database

  1. Sign in to your cPanel.
  2. Under "Databases", click "MySQL Database Wizard".
  3. Name the database as you like (example: projet01) and click "Next Step". Note: the full name of the database will be: [main username]_[database name]. For example, if the username you use to sign in to your cPanel is mtremblay and the name you chose for your database is projet01, the name of your new database will be: mtremblay_projet01.
  4. Enter any username of at most 7 characters (example: mtremblay) and a secure password (example: wri392x9por), then click "Next Step". Note: the full username you have just created will be: [main username]_[database username]. For example, if the username you use to sign in to your cPanel is mtremblay and the username you chose for your database is also mtremblay, the username of your new database will be: mtremblay_mtremblay.
  5. On this page, titled "Add User to Database", you can grant privileges to the user you have just created. Unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, we advise you to tick "ALL PRIVILEGES", which grants your user every right it needs. Then click "Next Step".

That's it! You can now use the various features of phpMyAdmin to create and modify tables and data. See the phpMyAdmin website for the script's documentation, and the official MySQL documentation.
